Botulinum Toxin FAQ

What is Botulinum Toxin?

Botulinum toxin type A is an injection containing abobotulinum toxin A. Abobotulinum toxin A is made from the bacteria that cause botulism. Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity.

How long does Botulinum toxin last?

Botulinum toxin injections must be repeated three to four times per year for best results. The goal is to weaken the targeted muscles without allowing them to regain bulk or strength. Most patients find that results last an average of three to four months.

It can last anywhere between 3-5 months, depending on the individual. For first time users it usually lasts up to 3 months. For those with incredibly fast metabolisms, such as athletes, it may wear off quicker. The opposite happens for those with slower metabolisms, or not as strong muscle movement, it may last longer. It is proven that the more regularly you have treatment the longer the result may last.

Botulinum toxin type A is injected into a muscle. A trained registered health practitioner will give you this injection. Botulinum toxin injections should be spaced at least 3 - 4 months apart. Your injection may be given into more than one area at a time, depending on the condition being treated.

The effects of a Botulinum toxin injection are temporary. Your symptoms may return completely within 3 months after an injection. If you switch healthcare providers, be sure to tell your new provider how long it has been since your last botulinum toxin injection.

Using Botulinum toxin more often than prescribed will not make it more effective and may result in serious side effects.

Does Botulinum toxin work for older patients?

Botulinum toxin may be a start on your path to a more rejuvenated appearance. Although Botulinum toxin has a more limited benefit in older patients when used alone, patients aged 40 to 70 and beyond can benefit from it. Combined with other procedures, patients are able to obtain optimum smooth results. Patients often require additional surgery such as lower face lift, brow lift or eyelid lift in addition to Botulinum toxin and skin treatments in order to obtain the smoothest results.

Are there risks associated with Botulinum toxin?

Botulinum toxin is a safe substance when injected in the proper setting by a trained professional. The usual risks are minor bruises from the needle, although allergic reaction and infection is theoretically possible. Flu-like symptoms or minor headaches can occur despite the fact Botulinum toxin is used to treat headaches. Eyebrow or eyelid droop and double or blurry vision are a risk. Most side effects are temporary.

Dermal Fillers FAQ

Are there any side-effects?

Side-effects may occur. These include swelling, pain, itching, bruising and tenderness at the injection site. They usually disappear spontaneously within a few days to a few weeks.

How long does a treatment last?

In general, the results last 6-18 months. The duration depends on many factors such as the patient’s skin, age and injection areas.

LED Light Therapy Face Mask

What does LED light facial Mask do?

Depending on which wavelength is used, light therapy can increase collagen production & cell renewal, diminish fine lines & wrinkles, reduce pigmentation & even skin tone, shrink large pores & smooth skin texture, fight acne causing bacteria and minimize scarring.

Is there proof this technology works?

LED devices are classified by the FDA as possessing “non-significant risk”; they are completely safe and possess no possibility of harm from over-exposure. The LED's emit no UV light, so there is no risk of sunburn or skin cancer. This treatment has no adverse reactions and no down-time. We recommend speaking to your doctor first if you are pregnant, have epilepsy or photoallergy or are taking any of the following medications; steroids injections, cortisone injections, medications causing light sensitivity (such as Tetracycline).

Is this treatment abrasive or painful?

Light therapy is a gentle, painless, non-invasive and non-abrasive treatment. You'll have no down time after each treatment.

How often can I use a LED facial Mask?

We recommend you use the mask for 15 minutes a day, every day to see optimal results.

How soon can I expect to see results?

Light therapy stimulates your own cells natural healing and collagen production, so the most visible results are not immediate. The skin can look different after the first treatment; smoother and more hydrated with a natural radiant glow, and with each treatment you will see improvement.
Acne scars and scars from other types of injuries can start to improve in as little as two weeks and should gradually fade over time with continued use.

Should I continue my skin care routine as normal?

Absolutely! The LED mask will help to strengthen and rejuvenate the skin at a cellular level so will amplify the results achieved in other facial treatments. We recommend using the LED mask as an addition to your existing skincare regime.

Is LED light for everyone?

Light therapy will have the greatest impact on skin cells with sluggish metabolism and slow cellular activity, showing visible signs of aging. It can be used on all skin types, colours and conditions.

Can I use LED Light Therapy after my Botulinum Toxin (wrinkle relaxer) injections?

We recommended that you wait a two weeks after Botulinum Toxin injections before beginning to use the mask. If you have any concerns, speak with your doctor or dermatologist.

Can I go out in the Sun after this treatment?

Yes, LEDs emit no UV light and the treatment does not increase photo-sensitivity. We always recommend you slip, slop, slap every day to protect your skin from damaging UVA and UVB rays.

Can LED light Therapy cause sun burn or skin cancer?

No. Sun burn and skin cancer are caused by light exposure from UV wavelengths, which the LEDs do not emit.

This gel binds to impurities; softens and relaxes pores, allowing them to breath; dissolves and liquifies excess facial oil.

Step 2: Treatment cycle

During the treatment cycle the galvanic instrument and the treatment gel are both positively charged. These positive charges repel each other, helping to deliver hydrating and free-radical scavenging ingredients deeply into the skin. At the same time, the positively charged instrument removes impurities targeted in the pre-treatment step.

Like other organs of the body, the physiological functions and structures within the skin continuously decline with advancing age. One of the first visible manifestations of aging skin is the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. This phenomenon has many causes but the biology is primarily a breakdown in collagen. Collagen is the structural protein in skin that provides structure—like scaffolding—and tautness. As individuals age, environmental and mechanical stresses break down collagen at an increased rate and the fibroblasts (specialized skin cells in the dermis that produce skin proteins like collagen) cannot keep up. These cells also naturally slow with age, which decreases the amount of collagen that is produced. The combination of these two factors may cause the skin in many people to essentially cave in—leading to the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Peptides are small molecules composed of amino acids that have targeted functions and are the way the cells in our body communicate with each other. A pro-collagen peptide has been identified with the sequence Lysine-Threonine-Threonine-Serine that is easily absorbed into the epidermis layers of the skin. This peptide binds to the receptor site on the fibroblast membrane, signaling the fibroblast to begin the synthesis of collagen to help counteract the physiological slowing of collagen production and increased degradation in the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin. Not only do adequate amounts of collagen give skin a more youthful appearance, but adequate amounts of collagen also contribute to essential skin moisturization. Collagen is surrounded by a gel-like material called the “ground substance” which is composed of moisture binding glycoaminoglycans (GAGs). These GAGs play a critical role in the hydration and moisture level within the skin and enable collagen fibers to retain water and provide moisture to the epidermis. Without GAGs, collagen would resemble an empty net instead of scaffolding. (Increased moisturization can offer additional plumpness and fullness.) In properly formulated cosmetic products, the delivery of key cosmetic ingredients can be augmented by the use of galvanic current. The use of this safe and gentle current can increase the performance of skin care products. It is also thought to increase the speed of benefits allowing consumers to see visual improvements in their skin within a shorter time when compared to using skin care products alone.
